How the futures calculator works
Each futures contract has a tick size and tick value. The calculator converts your entry and exit price difference into points, ticks, and estimated dollar profit or loss.
Trade planning modes
Use the Target/Stop Input Mode to plan your trade risk and reward:
- Price mode: Enter the exact price where you plan to take profit or stop loss.
- Points mode: Enter how many points away from your entry price you want your target and stop to be.
The calculator automatically adjusts for trade direction:
- Long trades: Target is above entry price (+ points); Stop is below entry price (- points).
- Short trades: Target is below entry price (- points); Stop is above entry price (+ points).
Example: Long NQ at 18000 Target 50 points = 18050 price Stop 25 points = 17975 price
Profit/Loss = point move × point value × number of contracts
